The East End Library fosters growth in students by providing access to resources, opportunities to collaborate, and instruction in a broad range of literacies. The library honors the community by promoting digital citizenship, curating a collection that reflects our community and nation’s diversity, and communicating with students, staff, and families.

Program Procedures

Collection Development

A strong library collection features high-interest books that are up-to-date and culturally inclusive. To that end, we strive to attain a wide variety of graphic novels, accessible chapter books, eager readers, picture books, and nonfiction texts across reading levels. As staffing permits, we deselect books that are outdated, in poor condition, inaccurate, or have not circulated in many years. We believe books act as mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors; thus cultural representation is a collection development priority. These collection development goals also apply to any books or materials donated to the library.

Lost and Damaged Books

If a student loses or if a book becomes damaged, we hope that the student’s family can replace the book or pay the library for the cost of the book. We will happily accept used replacements if they are in good condition. We understand, however, that this is not possible for many families. We will work with our budget and with community resources to keep books available to students.
