First Chapter Friday!
First Chapter Friday (for all students) Ways to Make Sunshine by Renee Watson (9:35) This video is recycled from last year, but the book hasn't been circulating and it's a great new series that's winning many accolades! Summary from Follett: The Hart family of Portland, Oregon, faces many setbacks after Ryan's father loses his job, but no matter what, Ryan tries to bring sunshine to her loved ones. Recommended for ages 7-10, but I think it could appeal to middle school students as well.
MSBA Friday (for gr. 4 &5) D & D Dungeon Academy: No Humans Allowed by Madeleine Roux (7:09) Summary from the publisher: Welcome to Dungeon Academy, where monsters and creatures train for the dark world that awaits just beyond the dungeon walls! But Zellidora "Zelli" Stormclash is a bit--different. She's the one thing monsters and creatures of the Forgotten Realms fear the most: Zelli is a human! Knowing she'll never be accepted, Zelli's parents disguise her as a minotaur in hopes she'll blend with the academy's monstrous surroundings. Zelli does her work, keeps to herself, and becomes "invisible" to everyone. While in History of Horrible Humans class, Zelli learns of the great human adventurer, Allidora Steelstrike, who oddly resembles her. Could Zelli also be a Steelstrike? Seeking answers to her true lineage, Zelli embarks on a dangerous adventure. Recommended for grades 3-7.

Help PTO and EECS meet our goal for the #SeedMoneyChallenge, a 30-day fundraising challenge. It is a grant that will help East End expand our garden program. We are currently in the top 50 who will make an extra $100 if we can maintain that lead until noon tomorrow. Please help us win! Donate HERE. |

From Dawn Girsch, School Counselor… For the month of January, the school counseling lesson is all about Size of My Problem, Size of My Reaction. Students will determine which problems are small (can be solved themselves), medium (may need some adult assistance) or Big (adults need to solve). We will discuss reactions that fit the size of the problem. In the lower grades we will discuss tattling and will read the book Don't Squeal Unless It's a Big Deal. We will do some role playing in the upper grades. Next time your student has a big reaction to a small problem, ask if they match! |
We would like to remind students, families and staff that we try to keep East End a Fragrance Free environment. Some individuals have immediate reactions to fragrance due to allergies or sensitivities to fragrance and/or chemicals. Exposure to scented product may adversely affect a person's health, some or all of the following symptoms are typically reported:

Mayo Street Arts partnership with EECS These performances are part of a collaboration between Mayo Street Arts and the East End Community School. This MSA-EECS Partnership is a portion of a year-round approach toward engagement with our neighbors in East Bayside. A committee of elementary students and faculty helps to select artists and tailor workshops to support classroom curriculum.
