Hi families! This week we continued to "build our stamina" and get our bodies and brains ready to launch second grade. In math we have been reviewing addition and subtraction (including double digits), place value, comparing numbers, and coins. In writing we are working on mechanics- handwriting, spacing, capitalization, and punctuation. Students are also reviewing how to "stretch out words" to hear all the letter sounds in a word. In reading workshop we are learning about how to choose a "just right book" for our level. You can read a book 3 ways: read the pictures, read the words, and retell the story. Students immerse themselves in their books for Read to Self. This is a quiet time for students to enjoy books and apply newly learned comprehension and reading skills. Back to School Night is 6-7p on Thursday September 22nd. Hope to see everyone there! Mrs. Willette

The first week of school (well, actually six days) is behind us! In class we have been working on "building our stamina." Stamina means how long AND how well you can do a job. Children are learning that being a student is their job. Building and maintaining stamina is necessary for learning and growth. Everyone is working hard and slowly settling in with routines and expectations. Second grade is a lot of work but also a lot of fun. As I always say, You can do it, I can do it, we can do it!
