Dear Families,

Last Monday, your child brought home a January calendar where they could keep track of the changing moon.  Hopefully, we will have some clear nights or mornings ahead so you can help your child see and draw the phases of the moon throughout the end of January and beginning of February.  We have seen the moon during the morning hours at school so it has been coming up after most of us have gone to bed!  The new moon will be this Friday, so you should look for a waning crescent moon throughout this week.

Tomorrow we will begin a new writing unit called “Writing Reviews”.  I am asking each child to bring a collection of small items from home- action figures, rocks, cars, bracelets.  During writing we will then spend time judging what they have brought thinking, “This is the best because…” They will write to try to convince others of their opinions.  Since the rule is “no toys” at school, I am writing to let you know that we want toys!  We will use their collections for about a week.  Thanks for your help with choosing a collection that goes together and is small enough to fit in the paper bag I have provided.  (I will have collections available to any students who do not bring one)
