Dear Parents,                                                  February 27, 2017

The first graders continue our opinion writing unit and have written reviews of special classes, books, games and food.   It has been amazing to see how well your child is able to be persuasive by telling their reasons why they believe something they like is the best.   We will begin to write catchy introductions and include suggestions for what the reader should do.

In math, we will start a unit about adding tens and ones.  The students will use the many strategies they have learned to add single digits and relate those strategies to double-digit addition.  They will practice using a 100 chart and use base ten materials to support their work.

On Wednesday, March 1st you are invited to join us here at East End School for a performance by storyteller, actor David Gonzalez.  He will be doing a solo performance of Aesop’s Fables from 9:30-10:30.  Please join us if you can!

Our class will celebrate “Read Across America” this Thursday, March 2nd.  It is a day to celebrate the joys of reading and the birthday of Theodore Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss.  If you have any Dr. Seuss books at home, please have your child bring them in…we will enjoy reading his silly rhymes throughout the day!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Coffin
