Dear Parents,                                                       6-19-17

Thank you for coming to our “Celebration of Learning” last Thursday.  It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm in the children as they shared their bird work with you.  I hope you enjoyed learning about the adaptations, habitats and behavior of the birds your child studied.

There is a summer reading program through the library that will help encourage reading this summer.  Please have your child read for at least 20 minutes each day so they can continue to practice fluency and reading strategies.  Reading daily will help your child become a strong, confident reader.  Discuss books and ask questions so they are comprehending and enjoying what they read.  Your child will bring home a flyer from the Portland Public Library about the summer program.  You can also access on-line books through a website called pebblego.com.  The username is : “pgsummerfun” and the password is: “reading”.

Our last day of school is on Thursday.  Students will be released at 11:00.  It is hard to believe this is the last week of school and this fantastic class of first graders is moving on to second grade!  It has been such a pleasure working with your child.  Thank you for your support throughout the year!

Sincerely,
